How we support volunteers
At the heart of our original mission, Literations is proud to provide quality training, support, and social, educational, and recreational activities for our volunteer community
Act!ve-ation
Providing meaningful opportunities for older adults to stay active, engaged, healthy, and independent within their communities has been at the heart of Literations’ mission since
our founding. Through our Act!ve-ation Program, we offer a variety of free recreational, social, and lifelong learning activities for our volunteers and other older adults. Our volunteers report that Literations helps them stay mentally and physically active, interact with their peers, and give back to their community.
Highly Interactive Training
Literacy Coaches learn the ropes through a highly interactive training course that provides them with the means to support their students as they work towards fluency.
The training consists of many interactive modules, including cultural responsiveness trainings, shadowing other volunteers, practice literacy sessions, and feedback sessions.
Ongoing Support
Throughout the year, Literacy Coaches have monthly site team meetings and drop-in chats with staff to ask questions and seek support with any of their challenges. Our annual volunteer retreat also offers an opportunity for volunteers to discuss strategies for success as they mark the halfway point of the school year.
