Fractional Marketing Manager - 10-15 Hours/Week - Consultant, Hybrid

Overview of Position

Literations is seeking a Fractional Marketing Manager to execute and elevate the organization's marketing and communications efforts. This role reports to the Senior Development Manager, and is responsible for translating organizational priorities into compelling content, consistent branding, measurable audience engagement, and authentic storytelling captured directly from our program sites.

This is a 1099 contractor position averaging 10–15 hours per week, with a hybrid arrangement that includes monthly visits to program sites during the school year (December through May) for photography and volunteer testimonial collection.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or a related field (nonprofit experience required)

  • Degree in marketing, communications, or a related field  preferred

  • Passion for educational equity and comfort working within a mission-driven organization

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple content streams and meet deadlines independently

  • Proficiency with Constant Contact (or comparable email marketing platform), Canva, Metricool (or comparable social scheduling tool), and Google Analytics

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences (donors, volunteers, families, general public)

  • Photography skills sufficient for capturing authentic, on-the-ground program moments (professional-grade not required; strong smartphone or DSLR photography is fine)

  • Comfort interviewing older adult volunteers, elementary students, and distilling their stories into compelling written testimonials

  • Familiarity with Google Ad Grants is a plus

  • Reliable transportation for monthly program site visits across the Boston and Metrowest  area

Compensation & Terms

  • Compensation: Monthly retainer of $2,500, paid on a 1099 contractor basis (not a benefits-eligible employee role)

  • Expected workload: 10–15 hours per week depending on the time of year, with busier months (December, March, April) trending closer to 15 hours per week and quieter summer months trending closer to 10 hours per week

    • Based on a 50-week schedule (Literations closes for one week in December and one week in July)

  • Scheduling: Literations operates Monday–Thursday, 8am–6pm, and Friday, 9am–5pm. All meetings and program site visits are expected to occur during these hours.

    • The contractor has autonomy to concentrate Literations work into two consistent days per week, leaving the remaining days available for other freelance clients. The specific two-day schedule can be determined around a routine that works for the contractor.

    • During busier periods of the year (notably December, March, and April, and in the lead-up to major campaigns and events), additional flexibility beyond the usual two working days may be required to meet deadlines.

  • Ownership of work product: All deliverables created in the course of this engagement, including written content, photography, graphic designs, video, social media assets, and any other creative materials, are the sole property of Literations. The contractor agrees that all such work product is created as work made for hire and assigns all rights, title, and interest to Literations. Specific terms will be detailed in the contractor agreement.

  • Mileage reimbursement provided for program site visits

Project Coordinator - Hybrid, Work must be performed in or near Boston, MA

Overview of Position

The Project Coordinator supports the rhythm of work that drives program quality, evaluation, and the continuous improvement of service delivery at Literations. The role spans project coordination, logistics, and program operations, and requires someone skilled across all three. Reporting both to the Director of Programs and the Director of Strategy, this position partners across teams to coordinate recurring projects, provide targeted programmatic and training support, and support data collection and evaluation.

Literations is in an exciting time of growth and the Project Coordinator will play a vital role in preparing the organization for its next growth and expansion phase. One of this position’s first goals will be to spearhead development and implementation of a supply chain process to ensure efficient and reliable materials distribution across Literations' growing network of program sites.

This role is well-suited for a curious, organized, and highly adaptable individual who is energized by working on a varied portfolio of initiatives that keep the organization running and improving. The ideal candidate brings a deep commitment to the students Literations serves and to ensuring every child has the support they need to become a confident reader.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, salaried position based in the Boston area. The Project Coordinator should anticipate the ability to work from Literations’ central office on a regular basis (at least 1x/week), with the need to adjust schedule and priorities in response to organizational needs, seasonal program demands, and emerging initiatives. In-person time includes interdepartmental collaboration, occasional site visits, and attendance at organization-wide events throughout the year and attendance at in-person office days and staff meetings in Boston.

The specific project portfolio for this role is set annually in partnership with the Director of Programs and the Director of Strategy and evolves with organizational priorities.

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a role requiring project coordination, logistics, data management, or program support - ideally in a nonprofit, education, public sector, or consulting setting

  • Exceptional project coordination skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple workstreams, meet deadlines, and move work forward independently

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information and tailor messaging to different audiences

  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail, with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset

  • Comfort working with both qualitative and quantitative data

  • Technical Proficiency: Zoom, Google Suite and solid spreadsheet skills (Google Sheets and/or Excel), and data management systems

  • Comfort learning new tools and platforms

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, program staff, and external partners

  • Physical Requirement: Able to lift 25 lbs to assist with site setup, maintenance, and transport materials across various program sites

  • Current, valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle (required for regular site travel)

Preferred

  • Experience in early literacy, K–12 education, or youth-serving organizations

  • Familiarity with program evaluation, survey administration, or data tools

  • Advanced spreadsheet skills, including data manipulation, modeling, and visualization

  • Experience supporting strategic planning, organizational change, or expansion work

  • Experience working in a multi-site or growing organization

Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hybrid, salaried position (40hours/week). This position has an annual salary range of $53,000-$60,000. Offers will be commensurate with experience. Benefits include:
